Last week your student took the Reading Inventory benchmark and writing benchmark. They are a good quick way to determine reading and writing levels. This will not only help me suggest appropriate books for your student, it will also serve as the baseline to measure growth for the year.
The iRead program has really taken off in room B8! Several students in each class have already read a book (or more). I have briefly conferenced with most of those students, and I am pleased with their comprehension of what was read AND their understanding of the novel's plot elements. Yay!
Please check in with your student to see where they are in their reading. Remember daily reading outside of school is the only homework for Language Arts.
